Premier Nutrition Corporation (PNC) is a leader in nutrition products that bring good energy to people everywhere. Located in Emeryville, CA, the company manages and grows a collection of amazing brands, including PowerBar®, Premier Protein®, Supreme Protein® and Joint Juice®. Two phrases encompass PNC’s culture: “good energy” and “people first.” PNC is a close-knit, team-oriented company, fueled by sharing good energy in everything it does. This good energy is evident through the products PNC puts out, the way employees treat each other and their customers and how employees give back to their local communities.

PNC’s business has been a growth rocket ship over the years and with this success, has made a major push to expand its good energy efforts beyond the four walls of its office to reach the communities where PNC employees live, work and play. Having launched from scratch just last year, the corporate philanthropy program has already achieved so much, from transforming the outside grounds of an Oakland elementary school, to biking a combined 1,170 miles to raise money for Northern California wildfire relief, to most recently, sorting and bagging 26,000 meals for the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

The philanthropy program consists of three parts:

  • Volunteer Grants Program: Monetary donations paid to eligible nonprofits to recognize and incentivize PNC employees who volunteer.

  • Giving Company Time: Twice a year, Premier Nutrition employees volunteer together for a half-day to give back in the community. New to the program in 2018, employees are also eligible to receive four hours of paid time off to volunteer at a charity of their choice.

  • Company Led Donations: Larger grants are awarded to local charities that promote healthy lifestyles and affordable nutrition.

This year, PNC employees voted to award grants to the following three non-profits in the Bay Area:

  • City Slickers Farms, an organization empowering West Oakland community members to meet the immediate and basic need for healthy fresh food for themselves and their families by creating high-yield urban farms and gardens.

  • Project Open Hand, an organization whose mission is to nourish and engage the community by providing meals with love to the sick and the elderly.

  • Coach Art (PNC’s partner over the last two years), an organization creating a transformative arts and athletics community for families impacted by childhood chronic illness.

As part of Premier Nutrition Corporation’s ongoing commitment to bring good energy to the world, the company will continue to partner with new charities, volunteer more hours and reach more people in the years ahead—seeking to double overall impact by 2020.
